# Apple Intelligence and Siri AI usage limits: everything Apple has actually said

*No number, no reset time, no price. But Apple's own pages show a meter, two answers on paying, and clear limits for Creator Studio.*

**Key points**

- Siri AI, Image Playground and Photos tools have daily limits. Apple hasn't published a number, reset time or price.
- Apple's developer documentation shows iOS already tracks a per-person quota with approaching and reached states.
- Apple Creator Studio publishes monthly minimums: 50 images, 250 shapes, 50 presentations and notes for 700 slides.

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI now come with usage limits, and Apple has been careful about what it tells you. There is no number on its consumer pages, no reset time and no price for “expanded access”. But if you read Apple’s support pages, usage terms and developer documentation side by side, a fairly detailed picture appears. This guide pulls together everything Apple has actually said, as of 28 October 2026, and marks clearly what it hasn’t.

### Usage limits at a glance

- **Apple Intelligence and Siri AI:** daily limits, with no number published. When you hit one, that feature is unavailable until the limit resets.
- **Apple Creator Studio:** monthly limits, and here Apple does give minimums: 50 images, 250 shapes, 50 presentations and presenter notes for 700 slides.
- **On-device models:** unlimited, according to Apple’s developer documentation.
- **More access:** “available for a fee in the future” on consumer pages, but “upgrade your iCloud+ subscription” in developer documentation.
- **Not published:** request counts, reset time, price, and which iCloud+ tiers get more.

## Which features have daily limits?

Apple’s support page on usage limits names these features, and says the list is “not limited to” them:

- Siri AI
- Clean Up, Extend and Spatial Reframing in Photos
- Image Playground
- AFM 3 Cloud and Cloud Pro in Shortcuts
- Third-party apps that use Apple’s Private Cloud Compute through the Foundation Models framework

On Apple’s UK Apple Intelligence page, “Usage limits may apply” also appears next to Visual Intelligence, photo editing tools, Siri’s writing help in Messages and Mail, and the Shortcuts feature that builds a shortcut from a description. Apple’s HomeView page carries the same note for Siri AI on the home screen display.

What isn’t limited? Apple’s developer documentation says the on-device model has no usage limit, and the cloud model has a “limit per day”. Features that run entirely on your device should therefore keep working, even when a cloud feature has run out.

## What happens when you reach the limit

Apple’s support page says the feature becomes available again “after a time out period”. Its usage terms say a feature “may become unavailable or be limited until the applicable usage limit resets”. Only the limited feature is affected, and the rest of your device keeps working.

The developer documentation is blunter. Unlike a rate limit, where you wait a moment and try again, “exceeding the daily quota means a person either waits for refresh or upgrades”.

Apple says how much you get depends on the feature, the complexity of your request, system demand, “system policies” and “other factors”. In other words, the limit isn’t one fixed number of requests.

## The meter exists, you just can’t see it

This is the most revealing part of Apple’s documentation. Apps that use Apple’s cloud model can ask the system for a quota status. According to Apple’s Foundation Models documentation, the system can report three situations:

- you are below the limit
- you are approaching the limit
- you have reached the limit, with a reset date when Apple knows it

Apple has also built a system prompt that offers to upgrade your iCloud+ plan, and Xcode can simulate “approaching” and “reached” states for testing. So iOS tracks a per-person request budget. Apple just doesn’t show the number to ordinary users, at least not yet. Apple says the reset date is empty “when the reset date isn’t known or when the person is well below their limit”.

## How you get more: two different answers

Apple’s wording has changed depending on where you read it:

- **8 June, WWDC newsroom:** “Increased access is available with most iCloud+ subscription plans.”
- **Developer documentation:** people “can upgrade their iCloud+ subscription to get more access”.
- **September and October consumer pages:** expanded access “will be available for a fee in the future”. The same line appears in Apple’s 26 October release on Siri AI languages.

Apple hasn’t explained the difference. Apple’s iCloud+ plans page doesn’t list AI access as a benefit at all. The only AI-related link between iCloud+ and a quota that Apple has published is for Home cameras: video summaries depend on your plan, with one camera on 2TB, two on 6TB and five on 12TB.

Not from Apple: Mark Gurman reported in July, via MacRumors, that the 2TB iCloud+ tier would get higher limits. Apple hasn’t confirmed it. Tim Cook said on the earnings call only that there would be “some kind of upgrade possibilities”. Treat both as unconfirmed.

## Apple’s terms: what you agreed to

Apple’s usage terms give Apple a lot of room:

- Apple can change which features are limited, and the limits themselves, “at any time”.
- Apple can change, suspend or remove access “at any time without notice”.
- “Excessive, abusive, automated” use can be restricted, throttled or suspended.

In short: the free allowance isn’t a promise. If you rely on Siri AI or Image Playground for work, that is worth knowing.

## Apple Creator Studio has its own limits

Apple Creator Studio is different. Its AI features run through OpenAI and Google Cloud rather than Private Cloud Compute, and Apple publishes real numbers on its support page. At a minimum per month, “if used exclusively”, a subscriber can:

- generate 50 images
- generate 250 shapes
- generate 50 presentations of roughly 8 to 10 slides each
- generate presenter notes for 700 slides

Usage limits reset each month. Apple adds that the exact number “varies based on the complexity of the queries, server availability, and network availability”. The words “if used exclusively” suggest the features may share a single allowance, so using one heavily could leave less for another. That is our reading, and Apple doesn’t spell it out.

Unlike Siri AI, this one has a visible meter. On a Mac, open the app menu in Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Freeform or Pixelmator Pro, choose Intelligence Features, then Show Usage Status. On iPhone and iPad, tap More, then Intelligence Features, then Show Usage Status.

The features covered are image and shape generation, Super Resolution and Auto Crop, Generate Presentation, Generate Presenter Notes and Slide Clean Up in Keynote, and Magic Fill in Numbers. Apple’s 27 October announcement adds new assistants in Keynote, Pages and Numbers, an assistant in Logic Pro, and Generate Fill in Pixelmator Pro, and doesn’t mention limits for any of them. We cover the update in our Creator Studio story.

## For developers

Apple’s Private Cloud Compute page says the cloud model is free of API cost only for developers in the App Store Small Business Program with fewer than 2 million first-time downloads, who also need an entitlement. Developers who pass 2 million, or leave the programme, must move to an alternative “within 6 months”. Test installs from TestFlight or ad hoc builds don’t count towards that.

The cloud model has a 32K context window and three levels of reasoning (light, moderate and deep). The on-device model has a 4K window and works offline.

## What Apple hasn’t said

- How many requests a day you get, for any feature.
- When the limit resets: midnight, or a rolling 24 hours. Apple says both “daily” and “time out period”.
- Whether Siri AI, Image Playground and photo tools share one pool or have separate ones.
- What “expanded access” costs, and whether it is part of iCloud+.
- Whether you will get a visible meter, as Creator Studio subscribers already do.

## What you can do now

- Use on-device features where you can. Apple says the on-device model has no limit.
- If a cloud feature stops working, wait. Apple says it comes back after the limit resets, and the rest of your device carries on.
- If you subscribe to Apple Creator Studio, check Show Usage Status before a big batch of images or slides.
- Don’t buy a bigger iCloud+ plan for AI yet. Apple hasn’t confirmed that any plan buys more access.

Our news story on the daily limits and paid access has the original announcement, and our Siri AI guide lists supported devices and countries. Language support is a separate puzzle, covered in why Siri AI speaks Norwegian before German.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Siri AI have a usage limit?

Yes. Apple's support page lists Siri AI among the features with daily usage limits. Apple hasn't said how many requests you get.

### What happens when I reach the limit?

That feature becomes unavailable until the limit resets, after what Apple calls a time out period. Other features and the rest of the device keep working.

### When does the limit reset?

Apple doesn't say. It describes the limits as daily, and its developer documentation includes a reset date that can be empty when the date isn't known.

### Can I see how much I have left?

Not on iPhone yet. The system tracks it, and apps can read an approaching and reached status, but ordinary users see no number. Apple Creator Studio does have a Show Usage Status menu.

### Will I have to pay for more?

Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee in the future. Developer documentation says people can upgrade their iCloud+ subscription. Apple hasn't given a price or said which plans qualify.

### Do on-device Apple Intelligence features have limits?

Apple's developer documentation says the on-device model is unlimited. Features that use Private Cloud Compute have a daily limit.

### What are the Apple Creator Studio limits?

At a minimum per month, if used exclusively: 50 images, 250 shapes, 50 presentations and presenter notes for 700 slides. They reset each month.
