[Apple TV Press announced](https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2026/10/apple-original-films-unveils-title-and-release-date-for-first-ever-fully-authorized-fleetwood-mac-documentary-fleetwood-mac-the-chain/) on 22 October that Apple Original Films will release a fully authorised documentary about Fleetwood Mac. Titled *Fleetwood Mac: The Chain*, it premieres on Apple TV on Friday, 29 January 2027.

Frank Marshall directs the film, which has the full cooperation of the band. The documentary brings together the five core members — Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood — and includes never-before-seen footage alongside exclusive new interviews.

The release date marks the 50th anniversary of *Rumours*, the band’s Grammy Award-winning 1977 album. *Fleetwood Mac: The Chain* is produced by The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures.

Apple has not disclosed the film’s runtime, nor whether Christine McVie, who died in 2022, appears in new interviews or only archival material.

## Why it matters

Fleetwood Mac have sold more than 220 million records worldwide and are Grammy Award winners and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. *Rumours* remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. Apple TV has been steadily building its slate of music documentaries, such as [12 12 12](https://mactoreality.com/apple-tv-debuts-12-12-12-trailer-ahead-of-13-november-premiere).

Our view: securing full cooperation from a band with the fractured history of Fleetwood Mac is a significant achievement. Paired with the 50th anniversary of *Rumours*, this documentary shapes up as a major cultural play for Apple TV, continuing its investment in prestige music projects.
