According to Apple’s release notes, the update lets Siri AI remember earlier conversations and draw on more of your personal data, and adds Suggestions in Messages, a single Excluded Apps setting and Simple Profiles in the Apple TV app. It’s a free update for every iPhone that runs iOS 27. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to install it. ### iOS 27.2 at a glance - Released 26 October 2026, worldwide. - Siri AI features need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model or later. - Siri AI now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, but is still not available in the EU or mainland China. - Apple also released iOS 26.7.2 and iOS 18.7.11 security updates for older iPhones the same day. ## What’s new for Siri AI Siri AI can now recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, such as the restaurants it recommended last week. We covered how Siri’s new memory works separately. Apple says Siri can also draw on more sources of personal context: photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List. A new Excluded Apps setting lets you choose, in one place, which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. Granular text selection lets you copy just part of a Siri answer. The same update brings Siri AI to five more languages, and Apple now says server-based Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits, with paid access to come. ## Everything else in iOS 27.2 ### Other changes, according to Apple - Suggestions in Messages offers quick actions from your conversations, such as adding a dinner to Calendar. - Shared Albums in Photos lets you edit captions and comments, avoids duplicate photos and can remind people before an album expires. - SynthID watermarking helps identify images generated or changed with generative tools in Photos and Image Playground. - The Podcasts Home tab splits into New Episodes and Continue Playing. - The Friends tab in the Games app explains friend suggestions and shows recently played games. - Simple Profiles in the Apple TV app give each person in a household their own recommendations. - FaceTime lets you add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call. Apple notes that some features may not be available in all regions or on all iPhone models. The update also includes security fixes, listed on Apple’s security releases page. ## Updates for older iPhones If your iPhone can’t run iOS 27, Apple released two security updates on the same day: iOS 26.7.2 for iPhone 11 and later, and iOS 18.7.11 for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. They don’t add the new features. ## Why it matters iOS 27.2 is the first Siri AI update to reach people who don’t use Siri in English, and the first to give it a memory. For EU users, though, most of the headline features still aren’t switched on.
