# Safari touchscreen controls in macOS beta hint at imminent MacBook

*Tabs lift and enlarge when dragged, and touch-and-hold menus omit 'Ask Siri', pdfu says.*

**Key points**

- Code explorer pdfu found touchscreen-optimised interface elements in Safari in a macOS beta.
- The beta Safari's touch-and-hold context menu omits the 'Ask Siri' option present with a mouse or trackpad.
- Apple has not announced a touchscreen MacBook, which Macworld says could be announced around 28 October with macOS 27.2 preinstalled.

Code explorer [pdfu](https://bsky.app/profile/pdfu.dev) found touchscreen-optimised interface elements in Safari in a macOS beta, the latest sign that Apple is preparing its first MacBook with touch support. The finding, first reported by pdfu on Bluesky, was picked up by [Macworld](https://www.macworld.com/article/3261748/safari-is-getting-ready-for-apples-first-touchscreen-macbook.html) on 15 October.

According to Macworld, Safari in the beta includes tabs that lift and enlarge when dragged, and a tap-and-hold on a tab opens a context menu without the ‘Ask Siri’ option present when using a mouse or trackpad. pdfu described the findings as ‘part 1’, suggesting more disclosures are coming. Apple has not confirmed any of this, and the features may not reach the final release.

The new code analysis follows [macOS 27.2 beta code that hinted at touch input in Safari, Photos and Notes](https://mactoreality.com/macos-27-2-beta-code-hints-at-touch-input-in-safari-photos-notes). Macworld also reports that the rumoured touchscreen MacBook could be announced around 28 October with macOS 27.2 preinstalled, and separately reports have described a [redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen](https://mactoreality.com/redesigned-macbook-pro-with-oled-touchscreen-will-be-much-lighter-reports-say).

The exact version of the macOS beta containing pdfu’s find is unclear.
