Apple is reportedly preparing to announce a new smart home hub called the HomePad on October 13, along with a dedicated operating system named homeOS, according to 9to5Mac.
The homeOS interface combines design elements from other Apple operating systems, including Apple Watch-style icons on the Home Screen. Its default view, as described by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, “is built heavily around photo slideshows and clock displays, similar to the new StandBy Mode on the upcoming iPhone Duo.” Siri AI is the primary input method, though touch input and a Home Screen with Apple apps are also supported.
The built-in software covers Music, Podcasts, Photos, Weather, FaceTime, Notes, Calendar, Messages, and Reminders. No App Store is expected at launch, but third-party widgets can be transferred from an iPhone.
Several details remain unconfirmed. The final operating system name may not be “homeOS,” the October 13 date could shift, and Apple may add an App Store later. The HomePad marks Apple’s entry into a dedicated smart home hub category, separate from the existing HomePod lineup.
