Code explorer pdfu found that the new Apple TV 4K will gain separate Surround Sound and Whole Room Audio modes in tvOS 27.2 when paired with four HomePods. The feature, reported by MacRumors, appears to let users choose between a dedicated surround-sound setup and a mode designed for even audio distribution across the room.

In Surround Sound mode, pdfu discovered a Spatialize Stereo control that defaults to On for Video and Music, giving the rear speakers an empty mix when disabled, plus a Surround Level slider adjustable from −8 dB to +8 dB in 0.5 dB steps. Whole Room Audio mode, which Apple describes as “spread[ing] sound evenly across four HomePod speakers for audio that’s perfect for parties or game day,” lacks additional audio tweaks and uses stereo channels assigned diagonally — front-left with rear-left sharing the left channel, front-right with rear-right sharing the right channel.
