Apple has not announced a release date for iOS 27.2, but it released the iOS 27.2 release candidate (build 24B115) to developers on 19 October 2026, alongside RC builds of iPadOS, macOS 27.2 Golden Gate, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS 27.2. A release candidate is the build Apple expects to ship, so the public update is likely to arrive within days, almost certainly before the end of October.

When will iOS 27.2 be released?

Apple has not given a date. In recent years, Apple has usually released its autumn x.1 and x.2 updates about a week after the release candidate, which points to the week starting 26 October. Two Apple commitments also point to October:

  • Apple said in its Siri AI announcement that French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish would follow in October.
  • HomePod mini 2 goes on sale on 30 October, and Apple’s press release says it is compatible with HomePod software 27.2.

Apple normally publishes software updates at 10am Pacific time. Clocks in the UK and Europe go back on 25 October, a week before the US, so in the week of 26 October that means 5pm in the UK and Ireland, 6pm in Paris, Berlin and Copenhagen, 10.30pm in India and 4am the next morning in Sydney. The update rolls out worldwide at the same time.

Which iPhones get iOS 27.2?

iOS 27.2 is an update to iOS 27, which Apple’s security releases page lists for iPhone 11 and later. iPadOS 27.2 covers the same iPads as iPadOS 27, from iPad (9th generation), iPad mini (6th generation), iPad Air (4th generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation) and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation) onwards. The latest public version today is iOS 27.0.1.

The new iPhone Duo, on sale from 23 October, ships with iOS 27.1, a version Apple has so far only announced for that phone. For other iPhones, iOS 27.2 will be the first feature update since iOS 27.

Siri AI features have stricter requirements: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model or later. Our Siri AI guide has the full device list.

What’s new in iOS 27.2

Apple publishes the full list of changes only when the update is released, so this is what Apple has confirmed so far.

Siri AI in five more languages

Siri AI launched in English only. Apple has promised French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish for October, and they appeared in the iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 betas. Your device language and Siri language must be set to the same supported language.

That does not change the EU block. Apple’s Siri AI support page still says Siri AI is not available on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch for EU accounts, and on a Mac in the EU it requires English. So French, Spanish and Portuguese speakers in France, Spain, Portugal or Belgium should not expect Siri AI on their iPhone with this update, while users in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland or Japan should.

Siri AI on Apple TV and the new home devices

Apple says Siri AI is available in beta in tvOS 27.2 on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and later, in English in eight countries including the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and India. The owner of the home needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad running the latest software, which in practice means iOS 27.2. HomeView runs HomeView software 27.2 when it launches on 13 November, and the new Apple TV 4K arrives the same day. We covered the tvOS side in our tvOS 27.2 beta report.

A new tracking prompt in the EU

Apple’s iOS 27.2 RC release notes say App Tracking Transparency now supports an alternative, expanded permission prompt for EU users, and apps can ask again once a year. The expanded prompt is required in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. Users elsewhere, including the UK, keep the current prompt.

What is not coming: the redesigned Health app

The redesigned Health app with new tabs appeared in earlier iOS 27.2 betas, but Apple’s RC release notes say it was included ‘for testing purposes only’, has been removed from the RC and ‘will be available again in an upcoming iOS beta’. Your Health data from the beta stays on the device. In short, do not expect the new Health app in iOS 27.2.

Changes spotted in the betas

Testers also found smaller changes in the betas, including a reworked queue in Apple Podcasts with separate New Episodes and Continue Playing sections, which we described in our Podcasts report. Apple has not documented these yet, and features can still change before release. We will update this guide with Apple’s own release notes when iOS 27.2 is out.

macOS, watchOS and visionOS 27.2

macOS 27.2 Golden Gate, watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 reached RC on the same day and are likely to be released alongside iOS 27.2. On the Mac, the five new Siri AI languages arrive too. Apple says Live Rewind and Siri Recap for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 arrive in beta later this year, but it has not said they are part of watchOS 27.2. Apple also holds a second October event on 28 October, and any new Macs announced there would be expected to run macOS 27.2 or later.

How to install iOS 27.2

When the update is out, back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer, then go to Settings, General, Software Update and tap Update Now. You need a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, enough free storage and at least 50 per cent battery, or the phone plugged in. If Automatic Updates is on, your iPhone installs it overnight within a few days. Developers and public beta testers can install the RC now through Beta Updates in the same menu.
