iOS 27 is reportedly adding several new Lock Screen customization options, including AI-powered wallpaper expansion and deeper Image Playground integration, according to 9to5Mac.
A new Extend feature uses AI to automatically expand a photo to fill the iPhone’s aspect ratio when setting a wallpaper. The Lock Screen wallpaper picker also gains direct Image Playground access, allowing users to generate stylized wallpapers from existing photos or create custom ones from a natural language description.
For the first time, users can move the Lock Screen clock to the top row of widgets, freeing up more space for wallpaper art. The Now Playing widget, previously a permanent fixture, can now be swiped away without stopping audio playback.
Beyond the Lock Screen, iOS 27 is said to bring revamped AI editing tools to the Photos app, including Clean Up, Reframe, and an Extend feature for adjusting aspect ratios.
Apple has been gradually expanding Lock Screen customization in recent iOS versions, and iOS 27 is the most significant overhaul in several years. Apple has not confirmed a release date for iOS 27, and it is unclear which iPhone models will support all the new features.
