Apps and games optimised for iPhone Duo arrive this Friday, 23 October, Apple Newsroom announced. Partners include Netflix, Prime Video, MLB and Microsoft.
iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 (U.S., excludes sales tax), £1,999 (UK, includes VAT), €2,299 (Germany, includes VAT) and INR299,900 (India, includes GST). Its inner display is 50 per cent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display, and both screens share the same aspect ratio. The A20 Pro chip powers Split View, letting users run two apps side by side.
Optimised apps carry a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge in the App Store. New editorial collections go live on Friday, with more updates arriving throughout the year.
Highlights include:
- Netflix: browse Clips on the outer screen, continue on the nano-texture inner display; clips adapt between vertical and horizontal views.
- Prime Video and Paramount+: when the device is partially folded, Prime Video shows video on the top half and X-Ray details below; Paramount+ adds richer controls, expanded browsing and table-top viewing.
- MLB and PGA Tour: live games, scores and stats on the larger display; MLB’s app is built for the World Series and can show the game upright with stats beneath.
- Microsoft Word and Outlook: desktop-class layouts rolling out in the coming weeks, with formatting tools beside a document and inbox alongside a message.
- Zoom, Slack, Salesforce: Zoom turns the inner display into a conference room; Slack and Salesforce show more content at once.
- Detail and Instagram: Detail uses the Core AI framework for on-device AI; Instagram shows more posts and Stories and combines timeline, editing and video in its Edits studio.
- Productivity apps Fantastical, Notewise, Things, Bear: the larger screen shows calendars, notes, tasks and AI tools together.
“We can’t wait for users to discover these experiences beginning this Friday, with many more app experiences to follow,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.
Why it matters
In our view, this app launch is critical for iPhone Duo. Our reviews of the device highlighted that its large display needs compelling software to justify its price. MLB’s timing with the World Series and Microsoft’s productivity focus could give the Duo a strong start. Apple says more updates are coming throughout the year.
