Apple announced today the start of App Store Indie Games Week, a seven-day celebration of independent game developers. Seven titles are featured across iPhone, iPad and Mac, led by the mobile debut of No Man’s Sky on 28 October.
No Man’s Sky arrives on Apple devices with every major content expansion released during its decade of updates, including the Cosmos update that lets players command their own space stations. Also featured: Sifu, the critically acclaimed brawler about a kung fu student on a path of revenge, rebuilt for iPhone and iPad with touch controls, a reworked camera system and controller support. Vampire Crawlers, a card-based spin-off of the hit Vampire Survivors, is among the other titles, alongside Little Kitty, Big City, 9 Kings, Dome Keeper, and Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall.
“Whether from a solo developer or a growing studio, the App Store gives bold ideas a global stage — turning daring visions into worldwide hits,” said Carson Oliver, Apple’s head of App Store Worldwide.
Each day of the event will spotlight different games through featured sections and curated collections. Apple is also offering a separate indie games guide for the Mac App Store.
Why it matters
The promotion brings major independent titles to mobile for the first time, including the vast procedurally generated universe of No Man’s Sky. Our take: Apple is betting that premium indie debuts can drive engagement on the App Store, where free-to-play games have long dominated the charts.
