The upcoming redesigned MacBook Pro will be significantly lighter than current models, according to sources who cite re-engineered internal components. The new laptops are expected to debut in late October or November 2026, marking the first major design refresh since 2021.
Both 9to5Mac and AppleInsider report that Apple achieved the weight reduction by miniaturising components and rearranging the interior. The current 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs about 4.7–4.8 pounds; the lighter model could approach the 3.3-pound 15-inch MacBook Air, though the exact weight saving isn’t specified yet.
The new MacBook Pro will also feature an OLED display and, for the first time, a touchscreen. 9to5Mac reports that Apple is expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, skipping the higher-end M6 generation to accelerate the M7. The accompanying macOS Golden Gate (version 27.2) will include support for touch and the Dynamic Island.
It remains unclear whether the weight reduction applies to both 14-inch and 16-inch models. Apple has not confirmed a specific launch date, but multiple sources point to a reveal before the end of November.
