Apple TV Press announced today that Apple TV has acquired “Dustfall”, a six-episode crime drama starring Emmy Award nominee Anna Torv, with the premiere set for 2027.
The series adapts Vikki Petraitis’s novel The Unbelieved, with Dianne Taylor writing for the screen and Taylor, Stuart Page, Belinda Chayko and Beatrix Christian sharing the television adaptation. Emma Freeman directs. She also executive produces with Xavier Marchand, Daisy Gilbert, Deb Balderstone, Anna Torv, Brett Sleigh and Rachel Okine, while Soapbox Pictures and Moonriver Television produce. The cast includes Torv, Juliet Stevenson, Kate Box, Jay Ryan, Peter Fenton and Martin Sacks. Filming took place on Australia’s Gold Coast, where the story is set.
The series was made as a co-production for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, with the BBC, ZDF and Screen Australia attached; Federation International distributes it worldwide and sold it to Apple. The premiere in 2027 covers most of Apple TV’s markets. In Australia, Dustfall will screen on ABC and ABC iview, and the BBC and ZDF hold premiere rights in their territories. Apple has not announced an exact premiere date.
Why it matters
Our take: Dustfall is another in a run of crime-led acquisitions for Apple TV, and the novel adaptation gives it a ready-made audience. Apple’s own tally for its originals now stands at 919 wins and 3,832 award nominations. The Australian carve-out is the notable wrinkle: in Australia, ABC and ABC iview (not Apple TV) will be the first home for Dustfall, a reminder that Apple’s global rollout still bends around local broadcast deals.
