Apple is exploring turning Siri into an AI agent similar to ChatGPT Dots and planning a major shake-up for iOS 28, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter today.

The report also says that Mike Rockwell, the executive responsible for Siri AI, is considering leaving his role or leaving Apple entirely, potentially by 2027. If he departs, his responsibilities may be split between Amar Subramanya and Sebastien Marineau. Marineau, who reports to software chief Craig Federighi, is expected to eventually replace Federighi, though there is no indication Federighi is leaving soon.

Rockwell took over Siri AI in March 2025, replacing John Giannandrea, after previously leading Apple Vision Pro development. He reorganised the Siri AI team, and the revamped Siri AI was announced at WWDC 2026. Apple has also been working towards a more proactive Siri agent, as we previously noted.

The specific nature of the iOS 28 shake-up is not yet known, nor is a timeline for the Siri AI agent. It remains unclear whether Rockwell will actually leave Apple.
