Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported today that Apple is exploring turning Siri into a proactive AI agent capable of autonomously managing tasks, potentially as early as 2027. In his Power On newsletter, Gurman also said Apple has changed its iOS 28 development cycle for the first milestone to give engineers more exploration time.

The agentic Siri would be similar to ChatGPT Dots, Meta Muse and Grok, according to Gurman (via his Bluesky post). Apple has built frameworks like App Intents that could facilitate such features. The company shipped personalised Siri with iOS 27, and expanded Siri AI actions across 15 Apple apps in the iOS 27.3 beta (our coverage).

On the development side, the first milestone (M1) of iOS 28 will have six weeks of coding and exploration followed by two weeks of integration, instead of the usual four weeks each. Employees reportedly prefer the new cycle because it gives more time for ideas.

Gurman’s timeline is a forecast; exact capabilities of the agentic Siri have not been detailed. It is also unclear whether the process change is permanent or only for M1 of iOS 28.
