Apple TV Press announced on 22 October that Apple Original Films will release a fully authorised documentary about Fleetwood Mac. Titled Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, it premieres on Apple TV on Friday, 29 January 2027.

Frank Marshall directs the film, which has the full cooperation of the band. The documentary brings together the five core members — Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood — and includes never-before-seen footage alongside exclusive new interviews.

The release date marks the 50th anniversary of Rumours, the band’s Grammy Award-winning 1977 album. Fleetwood Mac: The Chain is produced by The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures.

Apple has not disclosed the film’s runtime, nor whether Christine McVie, who died in 2022, appears in new interviews or only archival material.

Why it matters

Fleetwood Mac have sold more than 220 million records worldwide and are Grammy Award winners and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Rumours remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. Apple TV has been steadily building its slate of music documentaries, such as 12 12 12.

Our view: securing full cooperation from a band with the fractured history of Fleetwood Mac is a significant achievement. Paired with the 50th anniversary of Rumours, this documentary shapes up as a major cultural play for Apple TV, continuing its investment in prestige music projects.
