The macOS 27.2 beta is now in its third round since 16 September, and it carries code tying new touch gestures to Safari, Photos, Notes and Quick Look, MacRumors found. Safari gets a touch sentinel recogniser, Photos has PXGTouchDwellGestureRecognizer, Notes has ICTouchPressGestureRecognizer and Quick Look gains a dragTouch feature, as Macworld also notes. Apple has not announced a touchscreen MacBook, and the code could instead relate to Sidecar, which lets an iPad act as a Mac display.
macOS 27 Golden Gate shipped on 14 September with a move to Apple silicon only, dropping Intel-based Macs, plus a redesigned Siri AI with onscreen context awareness, systemwide Apple Intelligence tools, and the Liquid Glass visual design. The macOS 27.0.1 patch arrived on 28 September; Apple’s security document says, “This update has no published CVE entries.” Reported issues in the initial release include Mission Control stuttering and missing desktop previews.
Some planned features didn’t make launch day. Automatic password changes are still absent, and Siri AI in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected in October, the same language expansion arriving in iOS 27.2 beta 3. SynthID identification for AI images isn’t expected until later in 2026.
Apple may skip macOS 27.1 entirely to keep version numbers matched with iOS 27.1. That would put the next Mac release, macOS 27.2, at the end of October.
