Apple says Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features that run on its servers now have daily usage limits, and that “expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future”. The wording appears in the availability notes of Apple’s Newsroom post about Siri AI arriving in five more languages with today’s 27.2 software updates.

Apple hasn’t said what paid access will cost, when it starts or how big the free daily allowance is.

Which features are limited

Apple’s support page on usage limits gives a slightly longer list of features that rely on server-side models. It names Clean Up, Extend and Spatial Reframing in Photos, the AFM 3 Cloud and AFM 3 Cloud Pro models in Shortcuts, and third-party apps that use Apple Foundation Models in Private Cloud Compute.

Features that run entirely on your iPhone, iPad or Mac aren’t named. Apple’s Apple Intelligence usage terms, dated 9 September, also say that “excessive, abusive, automated” use can be throttled or suspended.

Apple already ties some AI to iCloud+

There’s a hint of how a paid tier could work. The same support page says AI video summaries in the Home app already depend on your iCloud+ plan: one camera on the 2TB plan, two on 6TB and five on 12TB. Apple hasn’t said whether expanded Siri AI access will be part of iCloud+, Apple One or a separate subscription.

Why it matters

Until now, Siri AI has been presented as part of the software on a supported device. A free allowance with paid top-ups changes that, and how generous the daily limit is will decide whether most people ever notice. With today’s update bringing Siri AI to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish speakers, far more requests will now hit Apple’s servers.

Siri AI is still a beta, isn’t available in the EU on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, and isn’t available to users under 13. Our Siri AI guide lists supported devices, languages and countries.
