Siri AI can now recall earlier conversations on both iPhone and Apple Watch. In our own testing on the iOS 27.2 and watchOS 27.2 release candidates, Siri answered questions about chats from previous days in detail, and the Apple Watch version felt noticeably quicker than before.

Apple has not mentioned either change. Its release notes for the 27.2 release candidates say nothing about conversation memory or speed, so everything below comes from our own hands-on use.

What we tested

On an iPhone running iOS 27.2 (build 24B115), we asked Siri: “What was the thing you told me about import and export the other day?” Siri correctly recalled an earlier exchange about why English has “important” but no “exportant”, and summarised its own previous explanation of the Latin roots importare and exportare.

On an Apple Watch Ultra 3 running watchOS 27.2 (build 24S118), Siri recalled a separate conversation about the Apple TV+ series Dark Matter, including the characters and the plot point it had discussed. The answer appeared on the watch itself, without handing off to the iPhone.

A quietly updated watchOS release candidate

The build numbers are the interesting detail. Apple’s developer releases page lists watchOS 27.2 RC as build 24S116, released on 19 October. Our watch is running 24S118, a newer build that Apple has not announced separately. That points to a revised release candidate for Apple Watch, which is not unusual shortly before a public release.

The iPhone, by contrast, is still on the original iOS 27.2 RC (24B115). Conversation memory works there too, which suggests the feature is switched on from Apple’s side rather than tied to a new iPhone build. We have no stopwatch figures yet, so the speed improvement on the watch is our impression, not a measurement.

Why it matters

Memory is what makes chatbots such as ChatGPT and Gemini feel useful over time, and it has been one of the clearest gaps in Siri. Having it work on the wrist matters most, because a watch has no room for scrolling back through old chats. It also raises fair privacy questions, which is why the retention setting above is worth checking.

iOS 27.2 and watchOS 27.2 are expected to reach everyone soon; our iOS 27.2 guide tracks the release date. For which devices, languages and countries get Siri AI, see our Siri AI availability guide, and for how Google’s models fit in, read Is Siri AI just Gemini?
