Apple has added an invisible SynthID watermark to images created or edited with Apple Intelligence tools in the 27.2 versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.
According to an Apple Support document, highlighted today by 9to5Mac, the watermark applies to Clean Up, Extend, Spatial Reframing, Image Playground and Image Wand. Genuine photos in a user’s library also receive the watermark when edited with the AI-powered Clean Up, Extend or Spatial Reframing tools, while Image Playground generates entirely new images.
The watermark is invisible on the image itself and can only be detected by checking the file with a SynthID detector, such as the one Apple recommends at synthid.com.
The 27.2 operating-system updates were released in the week before 6 November 2026. Apple has not said whether the watermark survives a screenshot, recompression or further editing, nor has it detailed the specific SynthID version it uses.
