Apple’s support documentation for iOS 27.2 adds a selfie-based age-verification method that asks users to prove they are an adult. The option joins existing checks that use a credit card or scanning an ID, and is not available in all regions.
According to the support document, age verification may be required in Australia, Brazil, Singapore, South Korea, the UK and Texas for actions such as creating an Apple Account, updating software, downloading apps or changing selected settings. Users asked to confirm adulthood may see the selfie option among the choices.
To use it, the user taps Get Started, centres their face in the frame and moves their head slowly right, left, up and down so the device can capture four angles. Apple says an age-estimation model evaluates the images and may take a moment to estimate age. The estimation runs on-device and on Private Cloud Compute.
“The selfie isn’t accessible to anyone, not even Apple,” the support document says. It is deleted immediately after age is confirmed and not retained in any form.
Apple has not given a full list of territories where age verification may be required, or a build number for iOS 27.2.
