Apple’s tvOS 27.2 release notes confirm that the Find My app can now locate the Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later from an iPhone. That brings the aluminium second- and third-generation remotes into Find My for the first time; until now, a lost remote could only be hunted down with the Apple TV Remote control in Control Center.

tvOS 27.2 rolled out on 26 October alongside iOS 27.2. Apple’s notes list Find My support next to FaceTime links, sign language interpreter and captioning support in FaceTime calls, and new screen saver options such as photo personalisation from iPhone and a shuffle mode.

What you need to do

According to MacRumors, the Apple TV must first be updated to tvOS 27.2, after which a separate firmware update is delivered to the remote over the air. Only then does the remote appear in the Find My app on iPhone.

The older remotes have no built-in speaker, so they cannot play a sound, and they do not support Precision Finding. Those features are reserved for Apple’s fourth-generation Siri Remote, which ships with the new Apple TV 4K from 13 November and is also sold separately for £59 in the UK and $59 in the US. Precision Finding with that remote needs an iPhone 17 or newer, iPhone Air or iPhone Duo.
