Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that Apple plans to eliminate non-touch premium MacBook Pro models when second-generation touch-screen models are introduced in 2027. Only the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro will remain without touch.

The second-generation touch models will use M7 Pro and M7 Max chips, with an emphasis on AI, according to the report. The entry-level 14-inch will move to an M7 chip and adopt a thinner, lighter design. Bloomberg also says Apple may maintain a $900 price gap between the entry-level Pro and the cheapest touch model in 2027.

Current touch-screen MacBook Pros with PROLED XDR displays start at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch, and are due to ship on 6 November. The current entry-level model uses an M6 chip and lacks touch support. As we reported when they were announced, the new touch models are set to begin arriving this week.

Separately, the newsletter reports that Apple’s software division is undergoing a gaming-related shake-up, and that some iPhone Duo screens are cracking. Apple has not commented on any of these reports, and details of the shake-up and screen issues remain unclear.
